FTN charting · 2025
Scheme
FTN charts every play by hand: motion, play-action, RPO, screens, blitzers, pass rushers and box count. Joined to play-by-play it answers a question raw tendency data cannot — does the scheme actually pay for this team?
The data recovers coaching identity without being told who the coaches are. Sorting by motion puts Shanahan's San Francisco and McDaniel's Miami at the top, the same coaching tree. Sorting by blitz rate puts Flores's Minnesota first. Neither was labelled; both fall out of the charting.
FTN charting runs 2022–2025, so scheme pages cover four seasons against eleven for play-by-play. It is charted by people, which makes it consistent rather than measured — treat “play-action” as a careful observer’s judgement, not a sensor reading.
